Anyway, I’ve been through the second session of my CBT workbook, and it talks about formulations and maintenance cycles. A formulation helps us to understand how our depression develops. and how our beliefs influence our thinking. It is a diagram, showing how low mood develops, what keeps it going, and how it impacts on day-to-day life. There is no right or wrong formulation and yours will be unique to you. Over the rest of the course it goes into further detail and making use of the formulations, which provides a useful guide to where CBT techniques can be used to make changes to how we think, behave and ultimately feel about ourselves.
